My cousin was uncomfortable with having her kids vaccinated for H1N1, and she asked me my opinion. I directed her to the CDC website and more importantly, to discuss it with her kids' pediatrician, which is what any parent should do.

First, there was criticism that the whole issue was being blown out of proportion. The vaccine's safety and effectiveness was widely questioned. A prominent conservative pundit even advised against taking the vaccine, stating there was "no way in hell" that he would take the H1N1 vaccine. Then the government was blamed for ineptitude when there was a shortage of this "ineffective" and "unneeded" vaccine!

It bothers me that the debate for/against vaccination has become a political issue, with conservatives mostly against it. There are medical professionals on both sides, and that is where people should receive their counsel, not from people motivated by a political agenda.
