DEFENDING THE CASTLE
I was very disappointed with your views on the possible repairs to the Governor's Mansion and your attitude about having a governor's mansion. We have had ths pleasure and pride in sharing the governor's mansion with various foreign visitors, family, grandchildren, friends.....without one not being very awed and impressed....with it's age, the history etc. After all, we are "The Lone Star State". So, I say, "Shame on You"...Are you a native Texan...if so, did you not study Texas history? Why do you think 48% of your JR poll think this wonderful symbol of our history needs to be repaired? Also, it is certainly not...just the home of the governor...but a symbol for all of us. There are tours for the public...did you ever avail yourself of one? If so, I can not understand your attitude.Actually, what I said, and what apparently everyone else heard me say, was: repair it if you can, but don't build a new mansion if the burnt one is a total loss. It would be smarter to join the other six states whose governors provide their own housing. As for "awing" your many "foreign visitors", surely our state has plenty of other destinations for that, without erecting a new castle for our imperious masters. I don't know what's funnier: citing the minority view in the poll as proof that I'm wrong or the part about "tours for the public". Can I get a new house built for me with taxpayer money if I promise to let you tour it?
